General practitioners and medical interns' level of knowledge assessment and their commitment to prescribing antibiotic therapy in the treatment of respiratory infections
The objective: To assess the level of knowledge of general practitioners (GPs) and medical interns (MI) in matters of antimicrobial therapy, to identify the most common AB for the treatment of respiratory infections. The methods: there was developed an original questionnaire for surveying physicians. Eleven GPs and twenty-five MI of Belgorod region's medical institutions took part in the research. The results: The question - when it is necessary to change an antibiotic treatment in case of clinical effect absence – was answered correctly in 81.8% and 64% of cases and given by GPs and MI respectively; the question about...

Characterisation of antimicrobial resistance in Salmonellae during 2014 & #8211;2015 from four centres across India: An ICMR antimicrobial resistance surveillance network report
Conclusions: Enteric fever is one such infection which poses challenges in antimicrobial resistance. Hence, continuous surveillance is important to track bacterial resistance and to treat infections in a cost-effective manner.

Haitian-like genetic traits with creeping MIC of Azithromycin in Vibrio cholerae O1 isolates from Puducherry, India.
Conclusion. None of the isolates were the prototype El Tor biotype. All the isolates were a Haitian variant. The presence of SXT elements across all our isolates and their creeping MIC of azithromycin is a matter of concern. Further testing for other genetic determinants of resistance will be carried out in our future studies. PMID: 31961790 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Prevalence and genetic mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance in Staphylococcus species: A multicentre report of the indian council of medical research antimicrobial resistance surveillance network
Conclusion: There were localised differences in the prevalence of resistance between the centres. The efficacy of the anti-MRSA antimicrobials was very high; however, almost all these antimicrobials showed evidence of creeping MIC.

In vitro Activity of Sitafloxacin and Other Antibiotics against Bacterial Isolates from HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Medical Center, Srinakharinwirot University and Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital.
Conclusion: Sitafloxacin had more susceptible percentage to E. coli, K. pneumoniae, P. aeruginosa, A. baumannii, and S. maltophilia compared to comparative fluoroquinolones. It should be considered an antibiotic for treatment of respiratory tract and urinary tract infections caused by the resistant strains of these bacteria with susceptible proven of in vitro susceptibility. Trends in antimicrobial susceptibility patterns in King Fahad Medical City, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Conclusion: Streptococcus pneumoniae susceptibility to penicillin significantly improved over time, which might be because of the introduction of the pneumococcal vaccine. Conversely, the upward trend in resistant gram-negative organisms is worrisome and warrants the implementation of antimicrobial stewardship programs. PMID: 30834420 [PubMed - in process]

Prevalence of community acquired urinary tract infections in silchar medical college, Assam, India and its antimicrobial susceptibility profile
Conclusions: Antibiotics have been in use for a long period and more often the misuse of antimicrobial drugs has today led to a general rise in the emergence of resistant bacteria.

Adult gonococcal conjunctivitis: Prevalence, clinical features and complications
Conclusion. AGC is a rare disease which is difficult to diagnose as it requires a high index of suspicion to prevent corneal perforation but in an important number of cases it may mimic orbital cellulitis. It is crucial that treatment starts as soon as possible to avoid serious corneal damage. Patients should promptly receive complete and correct treatment when admitted to the emergency room since an elevated number of patients do not attend their medical follow-up visit. Azithromycin or aminoglycoside eye drops are probably the best option to complete the treatment, due to high quinolone resistance.PMID:34494952 | DOI:10.1099/jmm.0.001416

Antibiotic prophylaxis and complications following prostate biopsies - a systematic review.
CONCLUSION: Evidence supporting a specific antibiotic regimen for TRUS-gb prophylaxis is scarce. Widespread use of fluoroquinolone prophylaxis may be associated with an increase in resistant Escherichia coli strains, posing a potentially major health issue in the future.  . What Are the Symptoms of Serotonin Syndrome?
Discussion Serotonin syndrome (SS) is a clinical diagnosis and problem which can be seen in patients of all ages. Classically SS presents with changing mental status, autonomic dysfunction and neuromuscular excitability. It is caused by increased serotonin levels because of therapeutically increasing the dose of a medication already being taken, adding an additional serotoninergic medication or one that potentiates serotonin, overlapping transition when changing medications, or intentional or unintentional overdose. It has become more common especially as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) have been used more ...

The rare < em > Salmonella enterica < /em > serovar Isangi: genomic characterization of the antimicrobial resistance, virulence potential and epidemiology of Brazilian strains in comparison to global isolates
Conclusion. The presence of S. Isangi strains from Brazil and different countries showing a close genomic correlation, antimicrobial resistance profiles to drugs used in human therapy and a large number of virulence determinants reinforced the need for stronger initiatives to monitor rare non-typhoidal Salmonella serovars such as S. Isangi in order to prevent its dissemination among human and non-human sources.PMID:37462464 | DOI:10.1099/jmm.0.001736

Isolation rates and antibiotic susceptibilities of different Enterobacteriaceae species as urinary tract infection agents in Turkey: a systematic review.
CONCLUSION: The resistance profiles of commonly used antimicrobial agents are much higher than the thresholds set by international guidelines. Hence, treatment algorithms for urinary tract infections should be designed according to Turkey's antimicrobial resistance patterns. PMID: 28618755 [PubMed - in process]
